Ben Brown
Musician, composer, and teacher
I am the founder of Music And Movement Mondays (MAMM), an improvisational series between live musicians and dancers based in Vancouver, BC. As a composer I have created scores for both dance and film, including commissioned works for Areli Moran, Jamee Valin and The Western Front with U.K’s Szuper Gallery. These compositions have been featured at festivals in Vancouver, Toronto and Mexico. I regularly collaborate with dancers and choreographers and have worked with Katie Duck, Justine A. Chambers, Deanna Peters.

For the past 6 months I’ve based myself in Europe collaborating with musicians and dancers while continuing my studies with two mentors: percussionist Dame Evelyn Glennie and performance artist Katie Duck. Recent highlights include a collaboration with designer Roxanne Nesbitt on her project "Mutual Instruments". Nesbitt is creating instruments out of different material (wood, glass, clay) to be used by both musicians and dancers. As a drummer, I am a member of the following groups: Pugs and Crows, Alicia Hansen, Cast, Malleus Trio, Pinkno Hana and Zen Dogs with my dad, Ian Brown on piano. In April 2013 I received a Juno Award for Best Instrumental Album of the year with the group Pugs and Crows.
